
He served as a teacher in the Seaman School District #345, Topeka, and the Perry-Lecompton School District #343. COL Foster received a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia in 1967 prior to entering the Kansas National Guard. He graduated in 1963 from Reserve Rural High School in Reserve, KS. Foster was born November, 6, 1945 to Ernest A. Foster was selected for induction into the Kansas National Guard Hall of Fame for exceptional service to Kansas Army National Guard Field Artillery, exceptional service to the communities in which he has lived, and for outstanding leadership in the Kansas Army National Guard. The unit returned home by way of Kuwait on Dec. Deployed to Iraq, they were engaged in force protection and engineer operational missions. Units were from Iola, Augusta, Chanute, Cherryvale, Coffeyville, Pittsburg, Fort Scott, and Winfield. The 500-member 891st Engineer Battalion was activated on Sept. 18, 2004, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Fifty soldiers from the Kansas Army National Guard were deployed with the New York National Guard’s 42d Infantry Division on Aug.

Four members of the Kansas Army National Guard’s Medical Command (Lenexa) deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom on Jan. The units returned home in December of 2005. The Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 169th Corps Support Battalion (Olathe), the 74th Quartermaster Company (Topeka), 137th Transportation Company (Palletized Loading System) (Olathe), and the 778th Transportation Company (Heavy Equipment Transport) (Kansas City, Manhattan, Emporia, and Council Grove), deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom on Oct. 20, 2004, and performed target acquisition duties in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom until Dec 3, 2005. Battery E, (Target Acquisition), 161st Field Artillery was mobilized on Sept. The 137th Transportation Company (Olathe) was deployed in 2003, with 14 members serving in Iraq and the remainder at Ft. After up-armoring their vehicles in Kuwait, they moved to the Baghdad International Airport, where they performed security and force-protection missions and operated the Joint Visitor’s Bureau. The 2d Battalion, 130th Field Artillery deployed to Iraq on Feb. During that time they logged more than 2 million miles and used more than 580,000 gallons of fuel in haul missions in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The 731st Transportation Company deployed as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom in March of 2003 and returned home on June 12, 2004. Other members of the unit flew refueling and casualty evacuation missions throughout Operation Iraqi Freedom. Members of the 190th Medical Group deployed to Balad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2008, where they were assigned to the intensive care unit lab and patient wards. They returned to Forbes Field, Topeka, on April 27, 2003. Members of the 190th Air Refueling Wing deployed for refueling missions as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. Six soldiers of Detachment 37 were deployed to Iraq in later 2007 and returned in May of 2008. Detachment 37, Operation Support-Aviation, fixed wing aircraft, flew missions in Baghdad, Mosul, Tikrit, Ballad, Basra, and Tullil in 2003, along with missions in Kuwait. They were released from active duty late in 2003. 9, 2003, and joined the 3rd Infantry Division on their initial push into Baghdad, where they occupied one of the palaces and collected and preserved historical data pertaining to Operation Iraqi Freedom. The 102d Military History Detachment left Kansas on Feb. On they were pulled back into Kuwait, and arrived home on July 4, 2003.
